Sheesh

Hayden and one of his friends are going to take swim lessons together, and his friend's mother and I are trying to find a good swimming facility. Here is the description for their age group at one of the places we're NOT choosing (and it's not because they can't spell acceptable):
Beginner Pikes develop confidence in swimming independently. Beginner Pikes are allowed to cry. This is the only level in which this is acceptible.

Day on the Farm

We took the kids to a local farm today. The beginning of the outing went something like this:

Us: Claire, Hayden - STAY WITH US!
Them (running): LOOK! A COW/CHICKEN/PIG! (running off again)

We've since decided to take them to a track to run a few miles before taking them anywhere. Once the energy levels depleted a bit, a much better time was had by all. They discovered a few fun things, like this old tractor:

They were a little annoyed that the tractor didn't actually move. So much for imagination, huh?

Cute girl we picked up.

This baby sheep was born this morning. Its mom was not a big fan of everyone gathering around taking pictures. I can't say I blame her.

What's a trip to the farm without a hayride?

Hayden's Crib

I promised photos of Reid's room, but the piles of junk in there are proving to be a bit stubborn, so here are some pictures of Hayden's room.

I found the red locker at Ikea and wasn't sure about it, but I love the way it looks in his room. The paper airplane decals are super fun, too. They might just be my favorite thing in his room.

It broke Justin's heart to hang a Red Sox pennant in Hayden's room rather than a Braves one, but we figure living up here, odds are he'll be a Red Sox fan (he already cheers, "Go Red Sox!" whenever any baseball game is on tv). Really, as long as the kid's not a Yankees fan, it's all good.

Train table, a staple for toddler boys everywhere, being destroyed by baby brother ("train track toss" is Reid's favorite game, much to Hayden's dismay).

Easter

We celebrated Easter with Baba this year. She came to visit during her spring break and we put her to work removing wallpaper and painting our dining room and Reid's room. Reid's room turned out so, so cute, and I'll post pics once there's not a big mound of junk in the middle of the room.

Baba had to head home on Sunday, but we had an Easter Egg Hunt before she left.

I was hoping to get a shot of her with all three grandkids, but the other two will have no part in anything that requires 1. Stillness, 2. Cooperation. My little Reid only has a few months of cooperation left in him before he's able to toddle about, too (wah!).

And they're off!

On the hunt

He really wanted to open every egg he found RIGHT THEN to see what was inside. I don't think he'd fare well at a egg hunt where his sister isn't his (VERY generous) opponent.

I tried to get a good picture of them together, but Hayden, obviously, had already begun indulging in his loot and the "mouthful of chocolate" look isn't so flattering.

FOURTH Family Day!

I can't believe it's been four years since the Claire Bear became officially ours. Here she is on April 14, 2005:

Every year, she gets a gift from a stockpile of 18 gifts that we bought for her while we were in Kaz. Some years will be better than others and we're trying to unload the boring gifts before she gets old enough to say things like, "This is stupid!" This year...slippers (woohoo!). They were actually a much bigger hit than expected, mainly because she discovered that she can run really fast in them and then slide on the hardwood floors at speeds fast enough to make Mommy freak out.

We also made cupcakes, which she's completely incapable of eating without getting frosting all over her face (where's the fun in cleanliness?!)

Apparently, frosting tastes as good on your face as it does on the cupcake

Happy Family Day, sweet Claire Bear!

My fireman

I joined a mother's group when we moved here a few months ago and they plan great activities for the kids every week. This week we toured the local fire station, which was a big hit with my little fire truck enthusiast.

Upon arrival, the firemen gave all the kids little fire hats. All the other children's hats fit just fine, but as you can see, Hayden's head is gargantuan. It's the giant brains, I'm sure.

At the helm (backwards in the chair, but whatever)

Driving the fire truck

Driving the ambulance (it pretty much just looked like a van inside, but he thought this way cooler than driving the fire truck...go figure)

He desperately wanted to try on some real fire gear, but changed his mind when one of the firemen let Hayden try to hold his jacket. It probably weighed as much as him.

Pretending the slide down the fire pole. He was so enthralled with the fire pole that two of the firemen ran upstairs so that he could see them slide down. Much to his dismay, apparently 2 year olds aren't allowed to slide down the pole. I can't imagine why they don't allow that.

We're officially uncool

Meet my sweet new ride.

Those of you who have visited and ridden in the 3rd row of the Pilot are probably especially excited about the minivan. You won't have to crawl through the back hatch of this! Claire and Hayden are excited, too, but mostly because they can screen Monsters, Inc. from their carseats.
